Reminiscing: Views From the View Master
Sometimes there are old toys that end up your favorites and can stand the test of time. They transcend generations, bringing enjoyment to children and grandchildren of the original owners. I have one of those toys which my grandmother originally purchased for one of my uncles, and kept around the house for the grandkids to enjoy. It wasn’t a normal part of our toy retinue, but only came out on special occasions.Sunday, September 23, 2018
Reminiscing: Some of My Favorite Toys
We all had our favorite toys when we were kids. Some of them stick out in our minds. Some of them we loved so much that we wore them out. Some we remember fondly but we have no idea what happened to them. There has to be a collection of favorite, forgotten toys somewhere, waiting to be rediscovered by old friends. Occasionally, I think of some of those old toys and wonder what happened to them.

Reminiscing: In the Circle
I’ve written before how, as kids, we had Mott’s Field in which to play. Of course, all my Walnut Street friends will know exactly where that is. But that’s not the only place we played when we were younger. It wasn’t just the parks or the front yard of Washington Hunt. We had neighbor’s yards, friend’s basement, and pretty much anywhere that had enough space. Those of us at the eastern end of Walnut also had something that other neighborhoods did not have. We had Bob-O-Link.

Reminiscing: Falling for Leaves
As I looked out this window this cool, rainy Sunday morning, I noticed that there are still a lot of leaves on the trees. To me, it seems like there are way more than normal still on the trees. Apparently, the awesome, warm fall we’ve had has allowed the trees to hold onto their foliage for a bit longer than usual. However, with the change towards a late fall feeling, the days are numbered for the leaves. That means we’ll have some raking in our very near future.

Reminiscing: Grandma's Counter
I had a weird vision the other night when I was trying to find some cookies in the house. Now, I’m not normally much of a cookie eater. My kids love them. They eat them all. Sometimes, they bake cookies (they are awesome, trust me) and attempt to leave some for me. A lot of times, I don’t get to them quickly enough and I miss out. I miss out a lot. We don’t keep very many pre-packaged cookies at the house. So, me looking for cookies was very unusual, to say the least.

REMINISCING: The Kids Are Not (Card)Board
It’s been awhile since I’ve updated. Part of it is the fact that I’m still in vacation mode. I tried my best to keep it going while I was gone, but I was on vacation. I really didn’t feel like writing, and who wants to read about that? So, I figured I’d get back to it when we got home. Well, we’ve been home for a week, and this is the first day that I’ve actually written anything. While part of it was being stuck in that mindset, the other part was the unsettled feeling around the house as we all struggled to use one bathroom. That will be in its own story just a bit later.

Reminiscing: An Explosive Imagination
Many of you who are the parents of boys will understand this. If you are a guy, you will still understand exactly what I’m talking about. No, I’m not talking about farts, although that could honestly be an article on its own. And it would be funny. Today, I’m talking about that other bane of existence for the parents of boys everywhere. I’m talking about the chemistry set.

These Old Walkin' Shoes: Call Me Maybe
We took the plunge last weekend and bought the twins phones. I hated to do it, and I wished that we could have waited just a bit longer. They’ll be thirteen next week, and I thought they were still just a bit young. I was hoping for another year or two before we had to get them phones. However, with them going away for a band trip, they needed to be able to stay in contact with us.

REMINISCING: Little People Worlds
I had no idea what I should write about for Reminiscing this week until I walked into the dining room last night before Wendy and I left for Royalton’s Bicentennial dinner. There on the table was a bunch of Little People arranged into beds and wheelchairs. Wendy explained to me that Josephine had put them together and declared that it was her hospital. You can see the picture later in this article.
