The Dads Must Be Crazy Ep. 12: When the Wives Are Away

We're a day late this week after some technical difficulties at the Watercooler Studios. But we do have another episode. Craig's and Bobby's wives are away for the week, and so far it's been an adventure. It's official: our wives are superheroes. And so is Howie. So, how are we doing while we're holding down the fort and being overrun by children. Take a listen and you'll find out. And you'll hear a lot of background chatter as the kids end up playing behind us while we record.

Tuesday, August 22nd, Jamestown and Pocahontas

The Bacon Vacation adventure continues. Yes, I did get to Historic Jamestowne, and we were there way longer than the average stay that was posted on the internet by visitors. We took almost twice as long. And then we went to the beach. It was next to impossible to get them out of the water after nearly three hours. It was another day packed with fun, adventure, and learning. And it sounds like the weather back in Lockport was nothing to write home about. I guess that makes this a win for us.

REMINISCING: So Many Roads

I have a confession to make. I’m a geek. Now, most of you who have known me for awhile already know this. For you newbies, you’ve probably already figured it out after reading some of these articles each week. This article today will definitely cement that idea in your minds. At the same time, I’m sure many of you have the same affliction even if you won’t admit it.

REMINISCING: St Patrick's Day in the Keys

The Grand Adventure I wrote about the last two weeks is kind of being continued today. This was not the same trip, but it was another trip that I took that involved my brother, Bob. It also involved, once again, leaving Wendy behind. I know; she’s a saint. You’ll especially believe that once I tell you that I went to Key West at St. Patrick’s Day while she stayed home with the three girls. (We didn’t have Jo yet, but that’s a story intricately woven into this one.)

REMINISCING: A Grand Adventure Part 2

When last we saw our intrepid heroes, they were coming to Montana, where maybe they would find a dental floss farm. They had already seen most of the Wisconsin countryside, the Badlands, of South Dakota, and 800 miles of “Free Water” signs. While they were still over halfway to their destination, there was still a long way to go.

These Old Walkin' Shoes: Jailhouse Rock

This week's “Walkin’ Shoes” is taking a little roadtrip. The whole family went on vacation. It was really a long weekend getaway, but it was out of state. On Monday, I walked over 3 miles at a single historic site. (Some of you may remember that I am a Brown Sign vacationer.) The kids liked it too. At least they said they did.

REMINISCING: Family Vacations

As my twins head off to camp for the first time this week, I think back to family vacations. I know, it’s a weird connection but it made me think of the vacations me and my siblings took as kids. There weren’t very many vacations. We were more of a staycation type of family long before it was cool. But the vacations we did go on were great. I can remember four times that we went away. I’m sure if there were more, my Mom and Dad will let me know.

In Search of the Square Ponds -- Day One

Yes, I’m going to be one of those guys. You know who I’m talking about -- the people who go on vacation and then force you to sit through boring stories and interminable photos of things you absolutely cannot relate to. To be fair, this column is less along those lines (although there will be just a little of that) and more to do with trying to drive 350 miles with four girls ages 12 and under. There are always adventures. At the time they’re not always funny, but in retrospect, they kind of are.
