Binghamton Knocks Off Lockport, 8-1

After a game Saturday night that saw the Lockport Express skate stride for stride with the league-leading Binghamton Junior Senators, the Express couldn’t keep up with the visitors Sunday afternoon. The Junior Senators left Western New York with a 8-1 victory on Sunday and a weekend sweep.

Dominik Bogdziul opened the scoring for Binghamton with a goal at 7:30 of the first period, assisted by Ryan Reifler. Binghamton closed the scoring for the period on a goal that came at the same time the buzzer to end the period sounded. The Lockport bench challenged the call by referee, but the goal did stand. From the vantage point of the Niagara’s Watercooler booth, it appeared the puck crossed the line nearly simultaneously as the buzzer sounding.

Binghamton continued their scoring touch with a goal at 12:00 of the second by Ryan Flanagan. Jeremy Wilber and Tyler Uravage contributed the assists to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. Lockport finally found the back of the net with a goal by Pavel Kovtunov at 14:29. Andrew Logar and Erick Santiago assisted on the powerplay marker.

The third period was all Binghamton as scored five consecutive goals. Conor Landrigan opened up the scoring in the third period just 52 seconds into the period. He was assisted by Reifler and Bogdziul. Armaan Thiara struck less than two minutes later to give Binghamton a 5-1 lead.

The sixth goal for Binghamton was a controversial one. The net behind Sam Fitzpatrick was very obviously off the moorings by 5 or 6 inches before the shot by Bogdziul dented the netting. Despite the arguments by players and coaches alike, the goal was allowed to stand.

After that call, a visibly dejected Express team allowed two more goals. After the seventh goal, a tally by Uravage, Lockport goaltender, Fitzpatrick was replaced by Adam Partridge. Binghamton closed out the scoring with an eighth goal at 12:45. Jeremy Wilber was assisted by Tyler Uravage.

The game was a relatively tame game with regard to penalties. In all, only 7 penalties were called, 3 of them by the Express. Both teams scored once with the man advantage.

Lockport’s next home games will be Friday and Saturday evenings, October 28-29,  at 8:00pm against the Jersey Shore Wildcats. Binghamton next hosts the Syracuse Stampede on the same nights.
